Example of a long-distance run plan for a beginner
Week 1: 3 miles (5 km) every day
Week 2: 4 miles (7 km) every day
Week 3: 5 miles (8 km), every other day
Week 4-onwards: Keep adding an extra mile until you reach your desired running distance. You can split up this mileage between two runs if that’s more convenient for you. Just make sure to take at least one day off after each hard work out, and wait until the next week to increase your mileage.
Increase your daily run by no more than 10% per week. If you find it too difficult at any point, scale back to the previous week or keep things as they are for another couple weeks before moving forward again.
